I am absolutely thrilled to share that my debut, All the Lands We Inherit, is forthcoming from Black Lawrence Press in June 2025. My manuscript was selected as part of the 2023 Open Reading Period--check out the full roster here so you can understand just how humbled and excited I am to be a part of this fantastic lineup!
All the Lands We Inherit is a lyric memoir, a hybrid text that resists clean narrative arcs but has a story to tell about grief, family legacy, and the contentious nature of truth itself. Modeled in form after Lamentations 3, it's a modern spin on the ancient genre of the lament, spanning individual pain, communal catastrophe, and a desire to reclaim something from the ruins of a mother's difficult decline. Along the way, the book's 66 prose poems examine matrilineal inheritance and explores its impact in the present day. How much of our forebears' stories do we own? it asks. And how far can we ever really go from the grounds in which we were planted?
I'll have more details to share over the next eight months, but I cannot wait to have this book in the world and in the hands of readers. My gratitude to Diane Goettel and the rest of the team at Black Lawrence Press for helping me usher this deeply personal, deeply meaningful debut into existence, and for including me in the catalogue alongside so many writers I admire.
