My poem, "The Good Old Days Together," was one of the weekly featured poems on Matthew Lippman's beautifully curated site, Love's Executive Order, in July of this year. Love's Executive Order collects poets' responses to this period of American history and politics, and this piece was especially informed by the news surrounding climate change, a frustration with feeling impotent in the face of these challenges, and an oddly rainy Spring in California. Poppies and polar bears are juxtaposed with buses that "emit a tinny whine" and "shifting coast highway"--a collapse of the natural world into the "human," and vice versa, which is a theme I return to often in my work.
